Finding the Right Cut: 7.5-Inch Serrated Straight Scissors

Every groomer knows that the right tools can make all the difference. When working on detailed cuts, having scissors that are lightweight, precise, and easy to handle transforms a challenging task into something enjoyable. For the fluffy feet of Ohana the Cockapoo (or should we say Spoodle?), we used our 7.5-inch serrated straight scissors, and they delivered the clean, sharp cut we aimed for.

What's in a Name?

Did you know they go by different names depending on where you are? In Japan, a mix of a Cocker Spaniel and a Poodle is called a "Cockapoo," but in Australia, the same mix is known as a "Spoodle."

The naming doesn't stop there:

  • Cavalier King Charles Spaniel + Poodle: Called "Cavapoo" in Japan, but "Cavoodle" in Australia.
  • Schnauzer + Poodle: Known as "Schnapoo" in Japan, but "Schnoodle" in Australia.

While Japan tends to use "Poo" to reflect the Poodle influence, Australia leans toward "Doodle" or "Dle." This naming trend is also seen in familiar mixes like Goldendoodles and Labradoodles.

A Groomer's Challenge

After spending 10 months grooming in Australia, it was clear that mixed breeds are incredibly popular there. Spoodles, Cavoodles, and Schnoodles visited the salon daily. Interestingly, purebred Poodles were far less common in Australia than in Japan.

With so many mixes, it can be tough to keep track of which breed is which—an experience many groomers can relate to!

The Role of the Right Tools

For Ohana's fluffy feet, we used our 7.5-inch serrated straight scissors to create clean lines. These scissors are lightweight, slim, and precise, making them perfect for areas that require attention to detail. The serrated edge helps grip the hair, ensuring each cut is smooth and controlled.

Switching tools can also change your perspective on grooming tasks. A process you once found tedious might become something you enjoy when using scissors designed for comfort and efficiency.

Your Experience

Do you call a Cocker Spaniel and Poodle mix a Cockapoo, Spoodle, or something else in your country? Every region has its own trends, and it's always fascinating to learn how others approach grooming and naming.

At the end of the day, whether you're working with a Cockapoo or a Spoodle, having the right tools in hand can make your work feel effortless. For more on our 7.5-inch serrated straight scissors or to explore other options, visit our website or reach out—we'd love to hear from you!
